Roald Dahl Day 2017

School was taken over by Mr Willy Wonka today and his Oompa Lumpa’s were working for him!

This was to celebrate Roald Dahl day. A massive well done to all of the children who dressed up as characters from his stories or wore his favourite colour yellow.

The day was started with a special assembly by Mrs Brookes who told us all about Roald Dahl

See more photographs on the school Facebook page.

Bruce Dyer assembly

Bruce Dyer came into school today to give an assembly about the exciting new clubs that he will be running at our school.

He told us all about his life and how the right choices that he made shaped his football career and his private life.

He showed us some of his football memorabilia, his England cap, shirts from Steven Gerrard and David Beckham, who he played against when he was young.

This is a very exciting opportunity for the children in our school. Remember to keep making the right choices!

As the General Election is today, the children in KS1 and KS2 have taken part in their very own election. We heard all about the different party’s manifestos, what they would implement if they were to win and why we should vote for them. Each class took it in turns to visit the Polling Station and cast their vote. The votes were counted and independently verified and we can now annouce that the winning party of the KS1 election was The Green Party with 19 votes and the winning party of the KS2 election was The Labour Party with 93 votes. The Labour Party had the overall majority. We had a great morning experiencing Election Day.

Next week is Barnsley’s Walk to School Week. This is a challenge to see how many people can travel to school in an active way for a week.  We would love it if we could get as many children as possible from Burton Road Primary School to give this a go to promote health and fitness. We hope you will join us in supporting Walk to School Week 2017!
