HOW DO WE IDENTIFY AND ASSESS PUPILS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS?

We recognise the benefits of early identification of special educational needs and we strive as a school to do this. We assess pupils current skills and levels and attainment on entry to school. We then track their progress and we then make regular assessments of progress for all children. When children make progress that is significantly slower than that of their peers or fails to match their previous progress in educational and other areas, we would inform parents and support children by running targeted interventions. This would then lead to a meeting with parents to discuss concerns and if progress levels did not significantly improve, it maybe agreed to place the pupil on the school SEND register.
