We have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We have learnt it starts as an egg. Then hatches into a larvae, it then keeps eating whilst it’s a caterpillar. Then it spins a cocoon turning into a chrysalis, then it will metamorphose into a butterfly. Ask me if I can remember what happens 🦋🐛

We have been following our maths curricular goal in Reception. We have been creating and playing our own maths game collaboratively. We have been counting, creating our own rules, turn taking, sharing and adding.🔢

We had a very exciting delivery in Reception from Supertato last week... he brought us lots of different vegetables to taste and talk about. We created a class tally chart to share which ones were our favourites. We have been learning all about how to keep our bodies healthy with a balanced diet, exercise, sleep, water, keeping our mind healthy and also keeping ourselves clean.🥒🥕🥔🍏🤾🏼♂️🤸🏼♀️
Well what a fantastic coronation party we had! 🇬🇧We made our own sandwiches and scones which we enjoyed at our party feast, alongside all the food contributions, thank you parents for bringing these in. We played some party games on the playground with the rest of school, danced, sang the coronation song and the national anthem. We have learnt about the royal family and what a coronation is. We also made bunting and decorations for our classroom.😀
We had an exciting delivery last week. Jack sent us some beans to plant. We have learnt what they need to grow. We have set up a test experiment to see what happens if we don’t give it the same things to grow, one has no water, one has no sunlight, one has soil instead of cotton wool, one has no cotton wool or soil. Let’s wait to see what happens.🪴🌞💦 We also planted some of our beans outside to see how they grow. We’ve planted some potatoes in our outdoor area too.🥔

We are very excited that our chicks have hatched in class 2. We have enjoyed naming them, learning all about them and taking care of them. We have also been lucky enough to see what our chicks will look like when they grow into a hen.

This half term we have been working on our first milestone linked to the curricular goal making fruit scones. In Class 2 we now have up and running our very own self service play dough area. When introducing this we worked with Mrs Littlewood in small groups to all make our own play dough, following the step by step instructions. After practising with Mrs Littlewood we are now starting to create our very own play dough to use on a daily basis. Why not follow the instructions below to create your own play dough at home!
World Book Day📚📙we have really enjoyed sharing our favourite stories today. We have been reading our stories to our friends, drawing some of our favourite characters, creating bookmarks and talking about our books😀

We have been learning all about Shrove Tuesday. We have been talking about if we have ever tasted pancakes before and which toppings we like. Then we have added on our own toppings and tasted them🥞
When we have been travelling on an adventure when reading our story Poles Apart, we have been learning about different countries. We stopped in Italy. We have learnt about some of the famous landmarks in Italy and talked about which foods Italy is famous for. We have designed and made our own pizzas.🍕
We are exploring and investigating which substances we can use to melt the frozen water which has turned to ice. We are testing which things make it melt the fastest. We are also creating our own small world area using some landmarks in Barnsley and our mini mes.🌊💦🏘🌇
We’ve had a busy afternoon doing some great independent learning. We’ve enjoyed learning about where penguins live and how they are adapted to survive in the Antarctic. We’ve also done some great writing about penguins. Ask me what I can remember about penguins.🐧❄️
This week we have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. We have been learning about why some people celebrate it and also what traditions they have. This afternoon we have loved tasting some Chinese food🇨🇳🍜🍤🍱

We had a very special delivery this morning. Santa sent us a tree, some decorations, lights and an elf. He wants to see who is being good and working hard🎅🏻🤶🏼🎄

National Fitness Day in Reception, we are learning all about keeping fit and healthy. We have met Toby Tykes this morning, we have done a Joe Wicks work out and some cosmic kids yoga. This half term we are going to begin our topic 'All About Me'. We are going to be thinking and talking about where we live, who lives in our house and who is in our family. We will learn to understand that families come in all shapes and sizes and that we are all unique and special. We will learn to understand that we must always show respect and kindness towards everyone.
