Class 8

Monday 13th July 2020

Hello Class 8,

It is your final week of the school year this week and that means your final week of home learning. This week I’d like you to continue with your spellings, reading and TT Rockstars & topic as normal. But literacy and numeracy this week is a booklet of tasks. Try your best to give each task a go and I hope you enjoy them.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you on behalf of myself and your teachers for your continued support throughout this strange time these past few months. I want you to know that you’ve all done superbly with your efforts for the home learning and your hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed, it has been lovely seeing your photos and work you have sent in, you have done Burton Road Primary proud! I know it may have been difficult at times and testing for grown ups too, but you’ve smashed it, well done! I hope your motivation continues for the new school year.

This week you will receive your school reports and find out your new class and teacher…how exciting for you! Things may be a little different in September, when you return, with regards to routines etc, but worry not- we’re all in this together and we will support you and each other as best as we can. Our aim is for you to be safe and happy!

It has been an absolute pleasure to see what you’ve been up to and work alongside you for your final weeks of this year and I look forward to seeing you all safe and smiling in September for another fun, learning, action-packed year! Have a great Summer everyone! Stay safe and look after you and yours!

Take care and see you all very soon,

Spellings Week 7

Monday 6.7.20

Hello Class 8!

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and that you all remained to stay safe! I am not going to write as much for your homelearning introduction this week as I feel that you know how it works now.

Everything remains the same - spellings, numeracy, literacy and topic. Please continue your weekly reading as I know most of you have been doing and logging into accelerated reader too and also don’t forget there is a TT rockstars battle for the week.

Remember to share anything whether it is work related or not - if you wish of course- you know how I enjoy seeing what you’ve been up to!

If there is anything you require or need support with you know how to get in touch with me via purple mash email, please don’t hesitate!

A massive thank you to you all for your continued support, you’re all doing a smashing job!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

This week's work wall of fame

Monday 29th June

Hello Class 8!

I hope you and your families are safe and well and that you've had a lovely weekend!

Home learning will continue as last week and updates will be on our web page daily.

I have set your weekly spelling quiz for you to have a go at. The spelling list of 10 spellings are on our web page for you to practise first and you may choose when you’re ready to take the spelling quiz on Purple Mash. Try and keep up with your spellings as best as you can. Also talk about the meaning of each word! This is important so you know what they mean! I will set a ‘redo’ if you do not get more than 6/10. This is so you are confident with the spellings. If you complete the spellings at the beginning of the week, could you challenge yourself to put them into a sentence?

Daily literacy and numeracy powerpoint will be posted each week and this includes the learning tasks and any additional supporting resources too. Please try your best at having a go at these. If you find work too hard for the main tasks for Numeracy, try the ‘Task B’ activity. If there is no ‘Task B’ then it may not be needed as you will find the ‘main tasks’ have different levels of difficulty to attempt that are suitable.

Please remember that you should be reading as much as possible and don’t forget to log on to accelerated reader!

TT rockstars will also continue and I will prepare weekly battles between class 8 and 9! So log in and get those times tables practised!

Your topic work will continue as last week where there shall be a lesson to read and understand on a powerpoint followed by a task for you to complete. It would be great if you could use your creativity and present your tasks as you’d like.

Some tasks I have added additional resources that may assist you in the task such as a hyperlink.

In addition to the task after the powerpoint there is a menu of tasks relating to the Norman’s topic. By all means have a go and choose any of the tasks you wish to do if they interest you. You are not expected to complete ALL of the tasks, but it would be lovely if you could choose some to show off your creative skills! Be sure to send me pictures of your work so I can post on our web page wall of fame!

Remember just try your best and do what you can!

If you need anything or more information about your home learning, please do not hesitate to contact me via email on Purple Mash!

Have a lovely week everyone!

Hello Class 8 happy Friday!

Another week completed! Thanks so much to those of you who have shared work this week. It is so lovely to see how hard you are working at home, whether it is on purple mash or the work set on our web page. Remember your home learning will continue as it has this week for the next four weeks, so don’t forget to check for updates from Monday for the week. Next week may have a few little extras that you may wish to have a go at. These are not compulsory at all but are just some little things to keep your brains ticking over- if you wish!

Rest, be lazy, have a lovely weekend and have a bit of you time!  Don’t forget to stay safe!

Monday 22nd June

Hello Class 8!

I hope you and your families are safe and well.

Home learning will continue as normal and updates will be on our web page, as you have used previously. As other teachers are busy teaching in school, I have been given the job of making sure you are still learning and keeping those minds busy. I understand that your home learning may have changed frequently over the past few weeks, but please be assured that the next 4 weeks will remain consistent to ensure there is continuity.  It may be a little different to what you have been used to, but not too much! I will make it easy enough for you to follow. I want you to understand that there is no right or wrong order in which you choose to do the work. Remember attempting work and trying your best is always appreciated no matter how much you do.

Work shall be posted daily, keep an eye out on our webpage and on Purple Mash. It will be like this each week for continuity, so I hope you follow ok.

I shall set a weekly spelling quiz for you to have a go at. I shall post a spelling list of 10 spellings on our web page for you to practise first and you may choose when you’re ready to take the spelling quiz on Purple Mash. Try and keep up with your spellings as best as you can. Also talk about the meaning of each word! This is important so you know what they mean! I will set a ‘redo’ if you do not get more than 6/10. TT rockstars will also continue and I will prepare weekly battles between class 8 and 9! So log in and get those times tables practised!

Your topic is the Normans. There will be a lesson each week to read and understand on a powerpoint. There shall be a task after each powerpoint for you to complete. It would be great if you could use your creativity and present your tasks as you’d like.

Some tasks I have added additional resources that may assist you in the task such as a hyperlink.

If you need anything or more information about your home learning, please do not hesitate to contact me via email on Purple Mash! Please note that Class Dojos are no longer used as a means of contact.

If you’re new to Purple Mash please see the ‘how to’ parent guide on our page.

Enjoy, Mrs Hatton smiley

Let the battle commence! Class 8 do you have what it takes to tackle Class 9 in a TT Rockstars battle?

Log in and take on the challenge! This battle will be on each week so keep an eye on the scores too!

Year 4, here is a task menu of activities to choose from, should you wish to.

I know there are plenty of tasks to get through for each week, but these are some extra curricular creative tasks you may feel enthused to complete. You do not have to do these, but they are there if you really feel like you'd like to get stuck into our topic!

You may have to do some research! Be creative, we'd love to see your photos of work sent in! Enjoy! laugh

................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I have received a few messages regarding children having already completed this weeks White Rose Maths. It appears that the WR have gone back and recapped a few weeks of the previous home learning tasks so some children may have already done this work.
If this is the case, please complete the Hamilton trust, BBC Bitesize or sign up to the maths factor website this week.

Hi Class 8, hope you are all well.

This week you will notice that there are two lots of numeracy (Hamilton and White Rose) and two lots of literacy (Hamilton and Talk for writing). This is because we thought we would give you the choice to either carry on with Hamilton or try something new! Please look at them both and decide which you prefer the look of.

With the White Rose maths, there is a page with all the links to the daily videos that you need to watch. You will also notice that there are only four days worth of work so please feel free to either do your arithmetic or an activity from the Hamilton pack on the fifth day. If you would like to try something different, BBC Bitesize has some great clips and activities that are added daily.

With the talk for writing, you will notice that there are a number of activities that you can spread out and complete over the course of the week.

The whole weeks learning will be uploaded but please remember to only do one numeracy and literacy activity per day. There's also a topic activity for you to have a go at where you need to look at the Powerpoints and try and answer the corresponding questions and a guided reading activity. I am so proud of you all and how hard you have been working.

Hope you have a wonderful week, take care!

Hello Class 8

Thank you for all your hard work last week! Don't forget to share any work on Twitter, Dojos or email me on Purple Mash. Here is Monday's work below. Don't forget to watch the Powerpoints and listen to the audios on them. Also, the literacy and numeracy sheets start off a little easier and progressively get harder so start 'mild' and if that's challenging enough then just complete that if you can. If you want a further challenge then have a go at the 'hot' tasks. Have a great weekend everyone! Stay safe.

Maths Quick Stick Starters MONDAY

In Class 8 we have been really busy with our Enterprise Project. We have been set a task by Mr Harris to set up our own class business and make as much money as we can at this year’s Christmas Fayre. Our business idea is to sell handmade Christmas Tree decorations. The children have come up with some wonderful ideas. Please come along to Class 8’s stall and support our business by making a purchase.
This afternoon we had a very special visitor to kick off our History Makers topic. Winston Churchill spoke to Classes 8,9 & 10, informing them all about his career as a politician and his Rise to the Top! The children learnt that he had many other skills too. What an interesting man.

Welcome to Class 8

In class 8 we try our best to make learning fun and exciting! This year will be no exception. We have some inspirational topics planned, starting off by looking at The Greatest Artist! We will then move onto History Makers, looking at famous leaders and Prime Ministers and understanding the work of the Government and Parliament.
Our PE day at the minute is Wednesday, spelling test Tuesday and homework return Friday.

Keep checking the website for updates and news about what we have been learning in class.
