Class 2

Welcome to Class 2's page! laugh

Mrs Farrell and Mrs Littlewood cannot wait to meet you all.

We're going to have a fantastic year and we cannot wait to start our new learning journey together!

We have been learning all about the lifecycle of a hen. We have watched our eggs pipping in the incubator and then hatch. We then put them in the brooder cage. We have watched them grow feathers and we have taken care of them. We have learnt about where they live on the farm and the different parts of a hen.

We’re having a lovely day in Reception for World Book Day! We enjoyed story time in the whole school assembly, performed our class poems, we’ve created bookmarks, drawn our favourite characters and shared our favourite stories. 😁📚

We’ve been consolidating our knowledge of patterns. We are creating repeating patterns using stamps.

We have joined drawing club this week and have been drawing our character and setting from our story- The Way Back Home. We have also tried really hard with our secret sentence passwords using our Fred fingers and writing one of the tricky words we have learnt- I.

Whole class storytelling using our class actions and story map😁what the Ladybird Heard🐞

We had a very exciting delivery last week. Albie from the story sent us a dinosaur egg to look after. We created posters so other people know it is there. Before it hatched, we discussed which type of dinosaur it might be. We have taken care of it and watched it grow. 🦖

We have been playing a maths game using our knowledge of the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We have been exploring the composition of 1, 2 and 3 using a part whole model, numicon and counters. We have been sharing the horses into the 2 fields.

We’ve been working working hard as a team to create a house with rocking chairs and a gaming room. Very creative, inventive and good teamwork 😁

Now we’re creating some Autumn artwork using paint to create leaf printings on our branches.🍁🍂🌿🍃

We have been exploring our senses. We have been thinking about what we can smell, touch, feel , hear and what things taste like. 👂🏼👅👀🖐🏻👃🏼

We’ve worked so hard in Class 2 to imitate our talk for writing story Funnybones. We’ve enjoyed retelling the story with actions and creating our own story maps.💀

In Class 2 we love to learn, play and explore both the indoors and outdoors! Over the year we have lots of exciting topics planned including Our Amazing World, Once Upon a Time and Growing and Changing!  Throughout the year we also be taking part in Read, Write, Inc Phonics to help us to learn to read and we will develop a love for Maths and will work towards developing a deep understanding of number to 10, using numicon and number blocks to help us along the way!

Read, Write, Inc Phonics

In Reception we are continuing to learn new sounds each week.  Don't forget to look out for the Read, Write, Inc videos and Fred Talk games on the class dojo for you to practise!

Over the next two weeks we will develop our knowledge of the story and will be learning how to retell the story ourselves using a story map. We will also be finding out about our 5 senses and keeping our bodies healthy.

Whole School celebration-European Day of Languages!

This week we are thinking all about where we live.  We have been thinking about which planet we live on, which country and which town we live in.  We have added been using some vocabulary and have shared them with Will the Word Bear linked to our learning including:

- Earth

- England

- Barnsley

-Monk Bretton

We have been excited to explore google earth and in particular looking at and walking around the streets of Barnsley on it looking for places we recognise including the Town Hall, Barnsley market and the Alhambra Shopping Centre.

We are looking forward to our short walk around the immediate area to see what we can spot on our journey before creating our very own maps later in the week.

This week we are learning all about Elmer. Today we have been reading the beginning of the story and have been introduced to some of our story words of the week including:

We will continue to read the story across the week thinking about events that happen in the middle and the end of the story.

We have been looking for birds in our bird watching area in Reception. We think we saw some woodpeckers and pigeons. We talked about how there will be no owls because they’re nocturnal so will be asleep.🦉🦅

This week we are creating self portraits. We have talked about what facial features we have, what colours, shapes and sizes they are. 👀👄👂🏼👃🏼👦🏼👧🏾We have begun drawing and learning how to use a paint brush properly and apply ready mixed paint in preparation for learning to use powder paints.😁

In our maths learning this week in Reception, we are learning to match pairs, make sets, sort and compare objects so that we know what is the same and what is different. We are going to be explaining how we know things are same and how we know they are different. 😁

We have been working towards our curricular goal in Class 2 to learn to make play dough independently. We have worked as a team to follow the recipe to make play dough. Great resilience and team work😁👥

Autumn Term - Making a Strong Start in Reception

Meet Fred Frog!

This week Reception have met a special part of our class and our Read, Write, Inc Phonics sessions Fred Frog!  Fred can only say the sounds in a word and needs our help to help him say/read the word.  Fred will say the sounds and the children have been trying to work out the word. For example, Fred says the sounds c–a–t, and we have been orally blending the word to say cat. This is Fred Talk: sounding out the word.  We will continue to take part in lots of Fred talk over the next few weeks.  Please check out the class dojo wall for a link to practise Fred talk games.

Some great home achievements shared in our class this week😁

The Colour Monster

This week our core text is The Colour Monster.  We have started to listen to the story and been thinking about his different feelings/emotions.  Class 2 have also been introduced to Will the Word Bear and have been thinking about some key vocabulary in the story so far including thinking about what the following words mean:

We look forward to learning more about The Colour Monster later in the week and thinking about our own feelings/emotions in particular thinking about things that make us happy and sad.

We’re settling into Reception so nicely in class 2😁
