Burton Road's ethos is to develop the whole child in order for our pupils to go on to live happy, healthy and successful lives -  physical education is at the heart of that ethos.

Taught discretely and delivered by subject specialists, who work alongside our class teachers, the PE curriculum is practical and skills-based to ensure progression and engagement. At Burton Road, we aim to triangulate quality-first teaching, inter and intra schools competition and activities outside of curriculum time to ensure our learners are motivated, challenged and engaged in a curriculum offer that is dynamic , challenging and enjoyable. In 2023, the school once again received the School Games Gold Mark and we were thrilled to be recognised by the Yorkshire Sport Foundation as a Centre of Excellence for our participation and commitment to wider sporting opportunities within the community for our pupils, 

In 2021 and in response to the challenges we face following COVID-19, we are proud to launch our inter-school competition program, Pro Active Schools Performance (see link below and in Children/Pro Active Schools Performance). Led by Mr Hawksworth, our Sports Specialist Lead, PSP works with a group of 12 local primary schools to enable our children to experience competitive events in a friendly and supportive environment, accessing the best sporting facilities in our local area.

In 2022, we were thrilled to be recognised by the Yorkshire Sport Foundation (YFS) as a Centre of Excellence for our participation and commitment to wider sporting opportunities within the community for our pupils. 

As YSF ambassadors, our staff have gone on to lead training and webinars to help share best practice in setting up an inter-school events collaboration.
