History Topic
Try this weeks history lesson. The slides and the worksheet are below.

You can complete this work at any point this week and this will not be uploaded daily.

For the task, there are two sheets however you do not have to complete both of them. Choose one of the sheets that you think will be best for your child to complete. (One is slightly more challenging).
Learning Objective: To know what a castle is and what they were built for.

Here are some additional topic tasks you can also try this week.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hello!

As most of you know, because your teacher is now back in school teaching, I (Miss Charlesworth) have been given the job of setting your home learning activities. Hopefully, I won’t make many changes to it and I will make sure to keep it fun and easy for you to follow. Also, your teacher will continue to check the work you send them and you can still contact them if you need to.

I just wanted to keep you updated with some changes that have been agreed with Mr Harris and the other teachers who are currently setting home learning.

From Monday (8.6.20), your literacy and maths work will be uploaded onto your class page daily. I will upload the tasks for each day the evening before (For example, Mondays work will be uploaded on Sunday evening etc.) so that you can prepare it in advance if necessary.

Also, I will also be adding some additional work for maths to either support or extend the learning in case you have been finding the work too challenging or not challenging enough.

Finally, for topic I will be uploading a lesson each week for you to complete which will be the same as they are doing in school. Alongside this, I will upload an additional selection of activities weekly, linked to that week’s topic lessons.

As you know, you are not expected to complete all of the work I upload, you can choose how much you feel you are able to do. Please keep uploading your work to your class teacher in the way you usually do and don't hesitate to get in touch with them with any questions you have.

Keep working hard and enjoy yourself!

Miss Charlesworth

Start from Summer Term Week 5 (wc 18th May)
Watch the video instructions for each lesson and the worksheets to go with the video are posted below.

History Topic

This term our new topic is 'Invasions and Battles'.
To start off, this week you have a quick question sheet to check what you may already know. When we do these in school we don't do any teaching beforehand. We read the questions to the children and then allow them to write down their answer without any prompts. It's a nice to look back on this at the end of the topic to see how much the children learned throughout the term.

Another little task for this topic that you can start doing is collecting materials such as cardboard boxes(different sizes), toilet roll tubes, paper, pens and any other items you think might be useful for creating a 3D building (I'm not letting slip what type of building just yet). We will be doing this in a few weeks time so you have plenty of time to collect things.

Have a go at these reading activities. Some are trickier than others.
Safer Internet Day

Materials

We looked round the classroom and found objects made out of wood, metal, plastic and glass.

Which objects are transparent and which are opaque? We sorted them but decided some pictures needed to be changed. Can you guess which ones?

Materials sorting

Number sentences

Today we used number cards to find out patterns in number sentences. What can you guess you see? We looked at the biggest numbers and which numbers swapped around.

An extra exciting event happened today. We met a special visitor who reminded us of how to behave and to have a very happy Christmas.

Christmas DT project

We have used our DT skills to make a Christmas stocking with felt and wool. We sewed our designs together and sold them at the Christmas Fayre.

Remembrance Day

Today we used our DT skills to sew our own poppy to wear. We learnt all about why we war poppies and observed a 2 minutes silence.

Art

We started this half term with a focus on art and a specific artist Clarice Cliff. We looked at her designs and copied them using paint, pen and crayon. We also made our own clay paints and designed a pattern in the style of Clarice Cliff and painted onto them.

Maths

Our Maths topic has focused on grouping, counting and putting numbers in order. We grouped children, objects and pictures. We have also used different equipment to help us with our counting.

Roald Dahl Day 2019

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day 2019 by dressing up as our favourite character from a Roald Dahl book or in his favourite colour yellow. There were some amazing costumes. We had creative day making a 'Giant Peach,' the BFG's ears and patterns of Willy Wonka's sweets.
