At Burton Road Primary School our approach to teaching Reading is strategic, systematic and progressive. Children learn to become capable readers by learning things, stage by stage, with well-thought out and well taught content, following a clear progression model. As we work through these stages of Reading development we aim to provide pupils with a wide range of carefully thought and appropriate literature that helps them to generate a love of: Reading & Literature, Enquiry, Acquisition of Knowledge and Application of Skills in a relevant and meaningful context. The separate stages of Reading development that we have identified and specifically teach, are:
